malay

hey-a! :D

WE GOT UMPCS!!! xD I'm using it right now. Its a really small laptop, loaned from the school. If it like, works out, its gonna be introduced to the whole school! :D

Uh, About Kuda Kepang. Its sort of like entertainment, and people ask them to perform at weddings and the like. From:
dancemalaysia.com

The Kuda Kepang is a dance from Johor that was once a form of worship, but later became entertainment. The performers would go into a trance, induced by the incense, the intense music played with gongs, tambourines and angklungs etc. In the trance, they feel no pain, and this is shown by them being whipped, stepping on glass and EATING glass. The nine dancers sit on 2D horses made of hide or rattan, and render a tale of the spreading of Islam in Java.

For me, the videos that we watched were sort of, wierd, in the beginning I couldn't understand it at all. Regina said it kinda scared her, it was so spiritual and everything.

Kay, then for malay: holiday homework ><

We must entri dalam blog at least sekali dalam minggu, and tulis tentang sebarang perkara sekurang-kurangnya. D:

I will post once a week then. seminggu. Saya shall not post hari ini though. Saya too tired.

enclaves

Hey-a!

Okay so some time ago, long before this blog, we went to filipino, thai and burmese enclaves in Singapore.

So the first one we went to was SASANARAMSI, a burmese buddhist temple. Its at Tai Gin Road, near another place called 晚晴园, which is currently under renovation, but alot of ppl should know it, since its mention in the HCL textbook.

We also learnt other things like;

-longyi: sort of burmese sarong, worn everyday
-the monks wear a saffron one-piece robe
-the Greater Vehicle monks wear lighter colours than the Smaller Vehicle monks.
-longer ears represent longevity
-the buddha has many lines on his palm, his toes are the same length to show fairness, he has a long hair on his forehead that curls into a small bun, and a protruding skull which means wisdom
-they only have 2 meals a day
-kyat is their currency
- J:older men, Daw;older women, Mong;brother, Ma;sister
-Palr is the original language of the scriptures
-they give dried fruits as offerings

Yep, that was it. (please tell me if anything is wrong) Then we went to Golden Mile Complex(thai enclave), where we were told we would smell a bamboo and salted fish smell. It wasn't all that strong, and anyway I don't know what bamboo smells like. Uh, it was really empty, but we were told that at night lotsa people wil come, and often people start to fight. That is, cause they get drunk.

Some of the really dominant shops are like, moneylenders, clothing shops, everyday neccessities, traditional items, handphone retailers.

Penisular Plaza is also known as the Burma Mall, and is located near Coleman Street and North Bridge Road. When we reached there, perhaps because it was too early, the place was really empty, and most shops were not yet open. I sort of gave me the idea that this place was not popular, which doesn't fit with the enclave thing, really.

Lucky Plaza. I sort of already knew it was a Filipino hub, because my (filipino)maid always goes there when she gets leave. And I pass it when going home from school.
